What is covered in this course

2015-2017

Section 1:

  • Overview of Project Development Approaches This section will provide a high-level understanding of the different project development approaches, including Lean, Agile, Kaizen, Scrum, Kanban, and hybrid models. It will explore the basic concepts, principles, and values that each approach embodies.

  • The Lean Philosophy The Lean philosophy focuses on continuous improvement and eliminating waste in the development process. This section will provide an in-depth understanding of the Lean methodology and its application in project development. It will cover the 7 waste categories and how to identify and eliminate them.

  • The Agile Philosophy Agile methodology emphasizes flexibility, collaboration, and customer satisfaction. This section will cover the Agile Manifesto, its 12 principles, and how to apply Agile practices to project development. Topics include Scrum, Kanban, and other Agile frameworks.

  • The Kaizen Philosophy Kaizen is a Japanese term for continuous improvement. This section will provide a comprehensive overview of the Kaizen philosophy, its history, and its application in project development. Topics will include the Kaizen cycle, problem-solving methods, and how to create a Kaizen culture.

2011-2014

Section 2:

  • Scrum Methodology Scrum is a popular Agile framework for project management. This section will cover the basics of Scrum, including the roles, events, and artifacts used in a Scrum project. It will also explore how to plan and execute a successful Scrum project.

  • Kanban Methodology Kanban is an Agile methodology that uses visual boards to manage work and prioritize tasks. This section will provide a comprehensive overview of the Kanban method, including its history, principles, and how to implement a Kanban system in project development.

  • Lean and Agile vs the PMBOK Knowledge Areas The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) is a widely recognized guide for project management. This section will compare and contrast the Lean, Agile, and PMBOK approaches to project development. Topics will include the similarities and differences between the methods, and how to apply PMBOK concepts in a Lean or Agile context.

  • Considerations for Adopting Agile Approaches This section will provide guidance on the key factors to consider when adopting Agile approaches in project development. Topics will include organizational culture, team structure, stakeholder involvement, and the impact of Agile on project management roles and responsibilities.

Dave Fourie, a Certified PMP, has over 25 years of experience in project management as a consultant, including PMBOK, Method 123, and PRINCE2 in software development, service delivery, quality, and general management. He has provided training in project management, quality management, and business analysis since 1999 and has experience with various national and international training providers.
